As often as we hear about people trying to save animals from a sad fate by creating shelters, this is the first time we hear (and read) about a sanctuary created just for orphaned kangaroos.
The man behind this program in Alice Spring, Australia, is Chris “Brolga” Barns, who decided to help these cute animals after working as a birdkeeper in Western Australia and a zookeeper in the Northern Territory.
Right now, he takes care of 28 kangaroos whose mothers were hit by cars, and he has created his own sanctuary to help them. In most cases, he saves young kangaroos lying in their mom’s pouch on the side of the road.
Chris received many donations that enabled him to pursue his dream.
